Elderly widow, legally blind with other physical disabilities, living in Denison badly needs roof replaced. Shingles are so old and brittle that they are breaking off and leaving areas of wood uncovered. 3 inch wide by 4 foot long open gap in top of roof at ridge row, where shingles have been blown off and rafters have separated a little.  Will require some minor wood repairs (rafters, plywood). Shingles must be removed (too brittle to lay new shingles over them.) Need tar paper, new shingles, roof edging and nails.

Very rough price for these materials is approximately $1200. Might be able to get a discount from roofing supply or hardware company. She had a recent estimate for $5100 for the total job, but cannot afford it. Needs to be done very soon.

Materials list includes 2 sheets of ¾” plywood and 4 2x6’s for roof repairs, 30 squares of 3-tab shingles (25-year), 8 rolls of 15-lb felt, 19 pieces of 1x2 drip edging, roofing nails.

We have a contact for someone at the City of Denison that might be able to help pay for the materials, or find help from other organizations. But need the labor to remove the old shingles and install the new ones. Also need dumpster for disposal. Might be able to work out a low-cost deal on the dumpster since this is an all-volunteer job.

Also need some bush and tree trimming right against the house, and some minor guttering repairs (and clean-out).

After roof is replaced (high priority part of job), could scrape, prime and paint the underside of the eaves all the way around house. Lower priority, but needs to be done.
