Project Description

Elderly gentleman needs some help with a few repairs to his mobile home.  He has really kept it in great shape (lived in it since 1977), but he’s not able to do these repairs by himself anymore, and has no one to help him.  A friend that met him 7 years ago (when he was on her “Meals on Wheels” route) submitted his name for help.

Two sections of the flooring (particle board) need to be replaced.  One is under his refrigerator (about 4’ x 6’) and the other is along the wall by his front door and under the A/C (about 2’ x 8’).  Moisture has deteriorated the flooring to the point where it is soft and spongy.  The repairs will probably need to be made from the inside, by peeling back the vinyl flooring (old, original), cutting out the board, adding some 2x4 supports, and installing new plywood to replace the old wood.  If the flooring can be laid back down, then it may be reused.  If not, some remnants of new flooring can be installed, and matched as closely as possible to the existing flooring.

24” fiberglass insulation will also need to be stapled under the flooring, and either tar paper or plastic sheeting installed as a moisture barrier (under the insulation).  This will help keep the home warmer during the winter.

The ceiling fan in his bedroom is broken.  Install a new fan, if possible.  The wiring to the bedroom light should really be replaced, as well, and a light switch installed.  (See photo for what it looks like now.)

Several trees need to be trimmed around the home; not a major job, should be pretty easy.  There are also a few places where the skirting (tin) should be put back in place and screwed down.  Also the outside water heater closet door could have a latch installed to keep it shut.

Very kind and humble man that will very much appreciate any help that could be offered.
