Project Description |
Senior man in north Sherman needs a wheelchair ramp for the front porch of his mobile home. He just had open heart surgery, recovering from pneumonia, and has severe diabetes. Disabled. Needs the wheelchair ramp to access his front door. The mobile home park has given permission to build this ramp. Currently in a Plano hospital, but should be home within a week. Will need ramp very soon. See existing porch in photos. Platform is in good condition, solid and stable. Steps (and handrail along steps) will need to be removed and discarded (poor condition). The ramp will need to be about 28 – 30’ long and standard width, stretching from the south edge of the porch platform straight out to the concrete drive. No angles or additional platforms needed. Handrail and side slats should be installed on both sides, and ramp should be built by normal govt safety standards. Would be best to use treated wood, with 4x4 vertical braces on top of concrete bricks (pads). Add lattice work to the sides, to keep animals from crawling under ramp (similar to existing porch platform). Would be very nice to stain the wood when completed, for appearance. Family does not have the funds to purchase materials. Project CrossWalk has some funding available, if a church needs help covering the cost of materials. The 6’ long east section of the existing chainlink fence will need to be removed to allow the ramp to extend past the fence (gate) and to the driveway. See photos. Fence posts can likely be left in place. |
