Project Description |
Elderly man in east Denison has recently been restricted to using a wheelchair. Has lived in his mobile home for almost 40 years. His wife passed a few years ago, and his grandson currently lives with him. He wants to continue to live in his home, but must have a wheelchair ramp for access. The concrete porch steps are moveable, and should first be slid to the side, out of the way. A porch platform should be built, even with the front door elevation, about 5’ wide and 7’ long, and anchored against the front wall of the home. The ramp can attach straight off this porch platform, and run along the length of the home, out to the rock drive. Total length of the ramp will be about 18’ long. Daughter and granddaughter say they have friends that can help with some of the labor. They may need help with the cost of the materials (church to discuss with the family, when project is adopted). No angles or additional platforms needed. Handrail and side slats should be installed on both sides, and ramp should be built by normal govt safety standards. Would be best to use treated wood, with 4x4 vertical braces on top of concrete bricks (pads). Would be very nice to stain the wood when completed, for appearance. See example of ramp (in photo), just for reference. |
