Project Description |
Single lady with one son (at home) needs help to fix some major roof leaks. There are at least 4 spots where water has been running through the roof into the ceiling, has damaged the ceiling sheetrock, and has rotted out the soffit and facia trim. There are 3 layers of shingles already on this house, and probably several areas where the decking is rotted and needs to be replaced. She does not have insurance, and cannot afford to pay for materials or repairs. The best fix is to remove all old shingles, replace any damaged decking, soffit and trim, and lay down new tar paper and shingles. This would likely be a $1500 - $2000 project, if a church did the work themselves. A less expensive option that would help her immediately would be to strip up the shingles in the four areas where known leakage is occurring. Make isolated decking repairs as needed, replace the trim and soffit in these areas, lay down new tar paper, and weave new shingles in under the old ones to cover these spots. Might take 8 bundles for this work. Already at a health-threatening level, as these holes in the roof are allowing animals to enter the attic, and the moisture will cause mildew and mold in the house. |
