Project Description |
Disabled couple living in south Sherman (out in the country) need some repair help. They have a little $$ they can pitch in to help with materials, but very limited income. Wife has MS and is in wheelchair most of the time. Husband has heart problems and diabetes. Just not physically able to do this work. No children. Back door was originally a sliding door, but the sliding section broke. Currently have a glass door that swings out, but it doesn’t fit well within the frame and doesn’t seal (to keep the weather out). Need a new door installed. That’s the highest priority work that needs to be done at this time. They have an old door that might work, but would be better to buy a new one that would fit well. The opening is 33” wide, standard height. They would like to keep it as wide as possible, to be able to get furniture in and out, as needed. They have two donkeys and some goats. The fencing along the back of the property is too low and loose to keep them in. Could drive some T-posts (maybe 20-30) and attach the existing wire to the posts to support it. Then maybe run 2 strands of barbed wire along the top of the T-posts. The brush is cleared pretty well, so access is not too tough. But there is a little bit of poison ivy in some of this area, so BE CAREFUL! The third priority would be the front porch area. They would like to remove this old OSB siding and install some new siding (maybe the “Smart Siding” from Lowes or Home Depot, about $20 per sheet). Also install one more window. Would need some carpentry skills, but not too difficult a project. |
