Project Name

Young couple with 4 little children live in a 130+ year old house in east Denison that badly needs some major repairs. The little 2nd Grade girl is recovering from cancer surgery, undergoing radiation and chemo therapy. Mom drives her to Children’s Hospital several times a week. They need help with house repairs, but even more importantly, they could use a church home and friends that care.

So many things that need fixing in this old house, but the priority right now is to get the back part of the roof replaced, from the south edge up to the rear wall of the house (two story home). Part of this will need to be “rolled roofing” with plenty of tar underneath, as the slope is less than 3/12 on the part that covers the back bathroom. Will also need some wood replacement after old roofing is removed. Rest of the roof needs replacing as well, but could be done in Phase 2. Would be best to do it all at once, but depends on the adopting church’s abilities. Not a large roof, but very tall 2nd story and very steep (dangerous, 20’ fall, see photos).

Other areas of the house that they could use some help with include the following:

• Windows – All existing windows are either very old (single pane) or broken. Several are boarded up. Upstairs windows are mostly all boarded, and there is no safe way for the children to exit the upstairs in case of fire.
• Siding – NE corner of house needs siding removed and replaced. Insulation will need to be added underneath.
• Back bathroom – Needs ventilation. Needs new sheetrock, tape, bed and texture. Flooring.
• Possible heat or A/C? Oil-filled radiator-style heaters are safer and more efficient than other electrical or gas heaters.
• Might need help upstairs?

This project provides a wonderful opportunity to minister to a family truly in need.
